How to Choose the Perfect Frame Size?

2026-07-29 17:42:58

When choosing the perfect frame size, first refer to the width of supporting furniture. The total width of a single decorative painting should account for 60%–75% of the furniture width, which works for sofas, bed heads and dining tables. Vertical frames are preferred for entryway walls to enhance vertical space perception. For grouped art sets, calculate the overall total width, leave 6–10 cm gaps between paintings, and treat the whole combination as one single artwork. Adjust the hanging height according to ceiling height, keeping the center of paintings at eye level of 155–160 cm.

Space layout should also be taken into consideration. Oversized frames are not suitable for compact rooms to avoid visual pressure, while tiny frames look weak on large blank walls. Frame border width needs to match the artwork dimension. Wide borders create stable visual effect for large paintings, and slim narrow borders fit small artworks for better harmony.
